To update to the latest version should I wait for the auto update, which
hasn't happened yet, or should I just download and install the newest
version? If and when I do that, can I just install the new version over Beta
1? If a program is suppose to update on its own I don't see a reason to
manually update it, I just hate that it takes so long.

Also, it seems I have a very nasty piece of adware on my familys PC and I am
unable to get rid of it. I've scanned with Ad-Aware, Spybot and MS AntiSpware
Beta 1. None of them pick it up. I did scans with Trend Online, PestPatrol
and neither of them found it. I finally did a scan with Spyware Doctor and
Webroot Spysweeper. They both found it, lop.com and something else but of
course, they won't remove it unless I pay for the program(s). Any suggestions?

You can install Windows Defender BETA 2 over BETA 1. When you launch the
program for the first time, you greeted with the option of updating the 19
days old definitions, recommended. Updates are pushed through Windows
Update, I forgot, before you finished installing WD, you were asked if you
would like Updates to be installed automatically (Recommended Settings).
Install updates, automatic or manual take just the same amount of time I say
since they contact the same source for definitions (Windows Update). Click
Help > About Windows Defender > Click "Check for Updates".

Andre, Are updates also pushed thru Microsoft Update which I have since I
have updated from Windows Update ?

Yes--MicrosoftUpdate or WindowsUpdate should do the job.
