Hi everybody,

I recently bought a Windows XP MUI with SP1 integrated.
Got it installed with german and japanesse language, that's why I bought
the multi language version.
Now I want to install the Rollup Update 1 and some MS bulletins (04-11,
04-012, etc.).
I don't want to use windowsupdate.microsoft.com for this, as I prefer to
download all updates to have them available for later re-installations.

What language do I have to download for updating a MUI Windows XP?
Is any english update suitable for a MUI Windows XP?
Or do I have to download the patch for all languages that I have the MUI
installed?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since the Windows XP/2000 MUI is sold only through Volume Licensing
programs, I suggest you contact your IT department.
They should have the information for maintaining their computer
systems.

JJ, I'm a private customer, in the EU it is legal to resell those
licenses (OEM, etc.). So unfortunately I have no IT department to ask
this question.
Currently I would go for the "english" patches.
I only want to make sure that I'm going to install the right version of
a patch for my MUI installation.

I found this FAQ before, but it does not explicitly state that every
english patch is suitable to a MUI installation (Could also be a
understanding problem, as english is not my native language).
If anyone could confirm this.

Thanks
Maddes

The FAQ seems to suggest English is what you need.

You should check the EULA etc.
The MUI is a component of the Volume license and can not be split off.
If it is split, the seller is most likely violating their agreement
and effectively selling stolen software.
The fact you bought does not mean it was bought legally.
Stolen software is often sold and the unwary buyers are often stuck
with little or no recourse.

Thanks for the confirmation.

My Windows XP MUI package was bought from a well known national distributor.
The Windows XP cd has a holographic print on it, similar to my Windows
2000 cd. The package also includes 4 cds with the MUI installation
packs. Looks like a complete and legal package to me.

Matthias;
I am pretty sure (not 100%) that the MUI can not be bought or sold
singly.
The fact that the CDs are genuine only means that they are genuine and
says nothing about the legality of the sales method.

If you want to be sure you could contact Microsoft and state the
details of what is being sold, not saying anything about what you
already purchased:
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/reporting/piracy_out_us.asp
Then you can get a definitive answer from a reliable source.
From there you could decide what next.

If it turns out to be illegal, you should contact the seller and/or
Microsoft.
