Updating Windows Defender Beta 2

I just downloaded an update thru Windows Updates, and it downloaded and
installed successfully, but about a minute after I installed, I received
another signal in my toolbar that I have something to install...again it's
the update. I've tried installing multiple times as well as restarting the
computer to make sure it completes, but I can't get the update to end. It's
not installing. The signature version I currently have is: 1.13.1276.3 built
on 2/15/06. The most current update is for 1.13.1282.6 ... Does this program
have to wait for the auto update to install automatically? Can't my
installing work?

After some research, it turns out I looked up that the signature is bad. Is
there anyway we can get new scripts for these? This is what I get in my
Application event folder:
---- EVENT ID: 11729
Product: Windows Defender Signatures -- Configuration failed.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
----EVENT ID: 1024

Product: Windows Defender Signatures - Update
'{EEDD45CB-A2C7-48B4-BFE0-BBC244339E4F}' could not be installed. Error code
1603. Windows Installer can create logs to help troubleshoot issues with
installing software packages. Use the following link for instructions on

Yes, it worked out fine now, thanks! I found others who had the same problem,
and I saw the exact post of what to do. Obviously, it is something that needs
to be fixed. Thanks for your help!

It is disturbling reminiscent of some issues with beta1. I've seen some
information indicating a system wide issue with some Microsoft download
servers in the past few days. It is possible that some of what we are
seeing relates to that issue, and not something which can be fixed in either
Windows Defender, or the update files.

I've got a slightly different problem..I get too many updates! I've had
KB915597-1.13.1282.6 nineteen times, yes 19, between 22/02 7 27/02 and update
KB892519-1.13.1276.16 eleven times (11) on 22/02. According to my
installation history ALL have download and installed correctly. Can anybody
explain what is happening? these updates are all on automatic update which I
have now put on hold.

Are you getting the same problem as I was getting described above and in the
general folder...it seems to update, but the update icon keeps coming back
after a minute? Check in Administrative Tools, look at your Events under
applications, then try the update again and see if you get any errors
installing. It will give you more detail to why it won't update. Look under
date 2/25/06 under General "Windows Defender Won't Update" LINK:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/sec...ae85cc-7bd4-47b5-ae84-e85f8f0ef58e&sloc=en-US

for more detail I saw. The two main errors were event# 1024 and Event#
11729. The installer for *.1282.* wouldn't uninstall the previous update, so
the one line should uninstall the old version. Then you can install the new
one. Yesterday, I updated to version 1286.*, and it installed easily. If your
events are different from mine, then there might be something else. Good luck!
