Updating McAfee

OK, I have a fully legal copy of McAfee Virusscan v8, and I've given up
trying to update manually, and just let it update automatically.

But a friend who still has version 7 and has regularly downloaded the xdat
updates for some time, is suddenly having problems. He goes to
http://download.mcafee.com/updates/4x.asp and then clicks on "Download".
When I do that on my computer, I can still proceed to complete the download.
On
his computer, when he clicks on "Download" the next screen flicks on
tantalisingly, and then gives a "Page not available" message. He also tried
to
do this from where he works (his company has McAfee installed as
well - not sure which version) and got the same result.

He has used the McAfee on-line scan which reports no problems, has Zone
Alarm on and updated.

Any ideas

Try their FTP site at ftp://ftp.nai.com/pub/antivirus/datfiles/4.x/.

Both sites work now. We on the mcafee forums noticed that VS8 updates where
having a problem past day or so. VS8 cannot use the downloaded dat update
files as it is a different program from the vs6/7 gender.

You can download the zip file and copy the scan , names and clean dat files
over to the relevant vs8 folder but auto with notify me of updates set works
usually ok.
