Updating 5687 to 5701

charles

I have updated my MS Spyware a number of times, however I
always end up having to update from the first time
installed the programme. ie 5687 to 5701. After each
update I am told that I am now using current updates.

I am using windows 2000. On my XP machine updates are fine.

any solutions?

Charles

try remove the 2 largest gcd from the folder (they have the same date)
fire MASA and see whether it works

Had the same problem here and your recommendation worked fine for me. Is
this a Bug in Version 1.0.509 that it doesn't update or doesn't show the
correct version of the gdc files?

Here, what I've installed now:
Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.509
This version expires on: 31.07.2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5703 (28.03.2005 9:02:33)

Before it was something 567x but from the same date, 28.03.2005.

Charles - Please try the method D@nnyBoy suggests--That's what worked for me
on this particular update.

If you'd like a more detailed description, let me know.

I think the bug still exists in 5703 :-(

using the delete method did not work
the 5071 files are being restored with the date 25 March
will try uninstall and reinstall to see whether it makes any difference

Nah--the update went fine, this is just the display bug--it's displaying the
wrong version, but the right date.

Proof would have been to see what files were on the disk when you saw the
5687 reading.

Test again next update. I could be wrong--this is pretty strange stuff--but
I think this is just the version display bug.

just wanted to see whether the other "beta testers" can reproduce the bug
I cleaned the registry before reinstalling

If it's a display bug only then it's not in the signature file, it's then a
bug in MSAS itself as I had the same with an older version and am sure the
signature file was updated manytimes (timestamp was always correct, but the
version never updated). So I expect the update routine doesn't set the
correct version or the version is not read correctly from the signature
file.
