My MS Home Edition Windows Update shows several critical updates available
for my installation. It seems I have to install all the listed up-dates are
none at all. How can I choose only the updates that I wish to install?

Go to the Windows Update web site. There you can select which updates to install. Choose the Custom option.

Choose "Notify Only" or "Download but do not install" option.
