Updates won't finish

1.) Update determined 5 updates necessary for XP Pro.
2.) I started them running.
KB912219 Ran to completion and
KB835732 Started.and ran to about 25% complete
3.) I left the computer running overnight, no more progress
4.) I clicked on CANCEL and got the message "Canceling Updates", three
hours ago and is just stuck. No disk activity, processor at 1% or so, lots
of memory available, internet works OK
Just Stuck.

How can I get this guy restarted or rolled back or some way continue my
updates?

I have to shut the computer off in this state and I'm sure thats not good
either.
