Update Version 5791

Hi:

Update version 5791 just came out and I am having the same repetitive
update problem, as reported previously by so many. It just keeps updating
unless you use the workaround also previously posted, as follows:

The easiest fix is to download the updated definitions manually and place
them in
your MSAS folder. Do not use the program to update, that is broken.
Instead get them at:

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Save these files in your MSAS directory overwriting the
older definitions.

It sure looks as if Microsoft could fix this problem that has been around
for so long.

My original posting here with the repetiive download problem was applicable a
Sony desktop with Windows MCE2005 installed. I just ran the manual update
applicable my Toshiba latop with Windows XP Home Edition and it ran and
installed with no problems.

One never knows when the manual download will work properly or when it will
not.
It sure would be nice to have an error free manual download application.....

An even easier fix is to simply wait awhile until things settle down.....

Agreed. Beta2 will update via AutoUpdate. There are occasional troubles
with AutoUpdate on a given machine, but far fewer than with the current
mechanism.

I am able to update to 5791 just now. You may need to disable your antivirus
program especially, NIS 2005. This NIS even block the updating of Yahoo
Anti-Spy. I face the problem since 1/2/2006 and only today find the solution
myself.

You may try this.
