Hello poetman,

Can you go to Windows Update, do an Express scan, and apply all offered
updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com
Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature
update with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

Error message after you reinstall Windows Defender Beta 2: “Windows Defender
definitions haven’t been updatedâ€

I hope this post is helpful.

Updating with an express install fixed the probelm for me, thx for the great

Hi Poetman.
Had the same problem, here's how i resolved it.
Go to the windows defender folder, right-click on AS_Sigs.msi and click on
uninstall. Now either click on check for updates on the defender page, or go
to windows update and perform again, this time it should update and stop
bothering you. The defendr screen should now go to green border.
Worked for me, hope it works for you too.

Once you grab some pre-requisite files from the express install, you should
not need to visit the site again. Glad to hear that worked for you. If for
some reason that did not work, I would have directed you to my kb 915105
which has you run a command to uninstall the signature file. I am working on
a troubleshooting KB and that should be live soon :)

Steve - Windows Defender has passed an important milestone: Over the
weekend, I visited my mother-in-law outside Pittsburgh. She's 88, and I had
Microsoft Antispyware installed, but with Real-time protection disabled--I
don't want her seeing any extraneous prompts--she calls me. At any rate, I
think she can manage Windows Defender, with the tray icon turned off,
autoupdate on, etc.

So--what prompted this message is that I saw the new link to 915105 that you
get when defs are really outdated--or maybe just automatically when the
install is brand new. Anyway--excellent placement!
