Update issues...

My WinXP SP2 box keeps returning the error: Windows Defender was unable to
complete the update: 0x8024401a.

I'm not using a proxy server. I have checked and unchecked the Internet
Connection settings for Automatically Detect Settings for LAN settings. I
have also disabled and enabled windows firewall. I have all of the critical
updates on my box. I have also downloaded and re-installed multiple times. Is
there anything else I'm missing?

I did have MS Anti-spyware working on here and everything worked fine. I
uninstalled it, so I could test the Windows Defender before I install it on
friends and family systems. Any help is appreciated in advance!!

Is this a home machine, or one on a corporate lan?

In either case, what about firewalls involved? At home, is there a software
firewall--perhaps part of an antivirus suite product, which might be
blocking? The executable seeking updates automatically will be mpcmdrun.exe

Additionally, you can go to WindowsUpdate or MicrosoftUpdate and you should
be offered updates for WindowsDefender.
