Unwanted Explorer Config Changes

Sick of having my home page altered by nefarious means
and also sick of having lists of porn sites added to
my 'Favourites'. Also had a couple of unwanted files
downloaded to my hard drive. Is there is an easy fix in
Explorer/XP or do I need some browser security software.
If the latter, can someone recommend a decent package?
Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

1) Download, update and run adaware from pcworld.com
2) Download, update and run spybot from pcworld.com
3) Get a firewall and update it (zonelabs.com)
4) Get antivirus and update it
