Unwanted auto-updates - how to clear icon?

Alan Challoner

The MS Windows XP auto download has presented me with a programme update for
MVM that is not on my machine.
The auto download MSN update icon in the toolbar is constantly awaiting
download and
installation. When I allow it I am advised that as I haven't got the
original, the update can't be applied.
Well that is quite understandable, but the icon won't go away and I can't
find a way of getting rid of it.
Anyone got any ideas please?

Open your control panel, click on Add or Remove Programs. On the left side
of the window, click on Add/Remove Windows Components. After the new window
opens, de-select (Uncheck) MSN Explorer.

Post back with results.
