Unstable ethernet connection

Hi,

My new pc is having trouble on a Windows XP Home insallation. The
internet connection is great when first logging in to Windows, but
after a while I start getting errors in Internet Exploer like
"Internet Explorer could not open the search page" for manually
entered addresses. Not the only error, I get varried ones, and not
just in IE, I got errors in Eudora and Opera as well.

If I continuously force the page to reload, I can sometimes get it to
eventually load the page. Then connection seems good for a little
while. But it always dies again.

But the connection is never really dead. I can always run tracert and
ping even when everything else is down.

If I just log off the user and log back in to Windows, the connection
is fine again.

It's not the cable modem or my isp. On this computer both are the
same, and this connection is rock solid.

Suggestions, and help...please.

Try doing some cleaning, especially with HijackThis!
