"Unspecified Error" message in The Sims 2...

Please help!
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium, The Sims 2 installed fine but when I
try to open it it just says "unspecified error"

I have an administrator account so thats not the problem...do I need to
install that patch for it to run because I have super slow dial-up and it
takes 3 hours and 14 minutes! But it cuts out at around 20% so I can't run
the update.

Seriously frustrated :)

Hi,

What patch? If the software vendor states that you need it to run that game
under Vista, then the obvious answer is "yes". Have you tried right clicking
the startup icon for it and using 'run as administrator'? This adds an
elevation of privileges that may be required (simply running as admin is not
sufficient).
