Unsolicited interruptions halts typing ability

Numerous times as I am typing an e-mail, the "warning bell" sound comes
through the computer speakers and I realize that what I've been typing has
not appeared on screen anywhere. There is a cross of 4 white arrows where the
mouse cursor is. I have to click on the e-mail to go back and retype what it
interrupted. Sometimes the composition window is minimized and other times
completely deleted or closed.

I've checked the buttons on the mouse, and none of them create the same 4
white arrows. Besides, the interruptions happen when I'm typing on the
keyboard.

Any ideas? Is this program corrupt or subject to hacking? Why is this
happening?

What are the hardware specs of your PC? Maybe Vista is choking it. If it's a
"modern" PC, check if you have other programs running that are sucking up
CPU time. You can check this via Task Manager.

Does this happen only when writing e-mail or at other times as well?

This is a long shot but I helped someone once who had a habit of
accidentally holding down the spacebar while thinking of what to write next
(he didn't notice because he's a touch-typist and didn't look at the screen
very often). The keyboard buffer filled and he got the typical warning
sound.

I'll see if the space bar issue is the problem. This is actually happening on
a colleague's computer. He is a typer who looks at the keyboard not the
screen. (I helped him decide what Dell Vista Home Premium computer to get,
but this was a huge upgrade for a man in his 70's who's last computer was
still running Windows 98.)

He said this issue only happens in Windows Mail. He also has some corruption
in the program as well, for there are e-mails in the Inbox and Outbox that
refuse to delete.

The jumping of the cursor can be caused by interference to a Wireless mouse,
and or Spyware that may have got on to the machine?

The stuck message problem is well documented, if you read previous posts
here, or you could search a database of news posts going back more than 25
years http://www.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en

The stuck messages in any folder than Outbox can be marked as read and
ignored, until M$ issue a fix.

The stuck message in the Outbox can be fixed by visiting the following site:
www.oehelp.com/wmutil/ read the instructions and then download the program.
