Unset read-only

I was just unclear on your explanation of the usenet servers and how they
operate with regards to post.
Apologies.

I was just unclear on your explanation of the usenet servers and how they
operate with regards to post.

There are bunches and bunches of Usenet servers. Some carry groups that
others don't some allow users to post messages of X size while others
only allow <X size messages. Some Usenet servers expire all messages
based on the entire size of the Usenet storage group, some are setup to
expire binary groups every XX hours, some keep text groups 6+ months....

The setup of a Usenet server is as individual as the people doing the
setup.

What I post to Usenet via the Road Runner server in my region may not
expire here in my region for ages, and it may not be carried on the
Usenet server you read/use.

What I'm saying is that Usenet is nothing a cluster of Usenet Servers,
spread all over the world, controlled by the individual server admins,
under their set of rules, and retain articles as long as the admin
chooses.

So, if you wanted this thread to disappear, while it might disappear on
your server it might still be alive on other servers - not to mention
the google archives.

I also suggested that you configure your MS Outlook email client to show
only "unread" posts instead of all posts - this means you will only see
posts that you've not read yet. Actually, I would suggest that you stop
using Outlook Express and start using any of the quality real Usenet
clients that do a much better job.

Look at Usenet like a place where your message is stored on thousands of
servers across the world - where users of any server may or may not see
your message, where they may or may not have this group even.

But what does all this have to do with the clearing of the read-only
flag the OP was asking about?

Hi

I've a folder which I've created which has readonly properties set on it. I
want to unset it so I can write to it and overwrite files within it. When I
right click properties, the readonly is set, so I uncheck it and then apply
and ok. When I have a look at the properties again, the readonly is still
set

What do I need to do to remove read-only?

Thanks

Simon
