*I received a reponse from Microsoft that worked.
When the problem occurs, press Shift +F10 to bring up the
command prompt. Then type taskmgr.exe in the DOS window
and press Enter. The Task Manager should be started. If
not, try to press C+Shift+ESC. In the Task Manager
program, select the error messsage window in the
application list and click "End Task". In the process
list, terminate the unregmp2.exe program. Exit the DOS
prompt window and resume the installation process.

It worked like a champ first time! *

this one is exactly right.. some others posted it also. I had this
problem also.. don't bother clicking a million times. This way is
extremely easy. Worked like a charm. Thank god for all of you, I got
this error once while repairing winxp, rebooted got it again and was
about to reboot again to just reformat (nothing on my comp was that
important.. i already backed up everything good) but i decided to look
around on the error. Saved me the reformat and the time it would take
me to reinstall all of my programs! Thanks

the unregmp2.exe file is most likely located in the windows INF folder
since now EXE files should be there my best guess is it's a virus,
deleted it and windows installed fine
*In reference to this Error:
unregmp2.exe entry point not found msdart.dll

I think I may have found an easy solution!

I was also upgrading from XP Home Edition to XP Professional on
DELL Inspiron 9100 Laptop. When I got this error I clicked OK fort
times and became very upset.

I pressed and held down the Power button for a few seconds. Th
machine powered off.

I then re-started the Laptop. The XP Setup stated that it wa
"Re-starting the XP Setup" and then went on to complete th
installation properly with no further errors.

I figure that the first part of the installation had already copie
the proper unregmp2.exe and/or msdart.dll into the system allowing i
to complete properly the second time around.

Hope this helps someone from going crazy. And to all of you brav
souls out there... THANKS FOR THE HELP AND ADVICE!

Regards,

When the error message comes up Hold down your control Key and the
Click the OK button. Keep Clicking until the error goes away.

If that doesn't work, don't hold down the Control Key, just star
clicking the OK button until the error goes away.

Good Luck!!

The above error may occur when the Windows XP clean or a repai
installation is running.

2. Type TASKMGR.EXE in the DOS window and press enter. This will ope
the Task Manager.

NOTE: If this doesn't work, try CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.

4. In the Task Manager, select the error message window in th
Application list and click End Task.

5. Click the Processes tab and select the process UNREGMP2.EXE an
click End Process.

6. Exit the Command Prompt and resume the installation process.

This should help.

*I had the same problem when reinstalling XP SR1 and had hit th
button about 5 times before taking the break to check out this site.
I ran to another machine to get on the Internet and see what the dea
was. I read the earlier posts about clicking the "OK" 70 or 80 time
and went back to do that and found my install had finished. It seem
after the "OK" is hit it takes a while for the response so you ma
not have to hit it 70-80 times but just the once and then go get
drink ( stiff one if your legal).
Good luck to all. Hope it turns out as well for you as it did fo
me. :>)

I had the same problem and clikking got me through. On the other sid
the unregmp2.exe seems to be an exploit (probably collected in th
previous installation). So take care of it when the installation i
done!

I may just have discoverd something thats piss easy to do that seems to
work with this particular error. All I did was leave it on for 3 hours
at that 13 minute till installation where it stops and comes up with
the entry point problem and it then magically as if an angel that
wasn't preoccupied with reporting masturbation to god without as much
as touching it it went on to the lets set up your computer bit. What a
career we have ahead giving call out charges to turn printers on for
people ect!!

Seems you have Media Player10 installed and the repair is trying to
install the older version, so do the following:

1. Press SHIFT + F10 to open a Command Prompt window.
2. Type taskmgr.exe, and then press ENTER.
3. Click the Processes tab.
4. Click unregmp2.exe in the list of processes.
5. Click End Process.
6. Quit Task Manager.
7. Close the Command Prompt window.

This is not a Trojan, Virus, SPyware
IF AND ONLY IF You get this during a repair...

*Clicking on it and walking away for 10 minutes didn't work for me
but clicking on it repeateadly for 40 seconds did work. Go figure.

Ok just checked the computer again and got the blue screen of death.

"A problem has been detect and windows has been shut down to prevent
problems to your computer."

I'll try reinstalling again I suppose. *

I have the same problem with the blue screen of death.

I was running a repair installation of XP pro on my PC because of the
problem listed here: http://www.support.microsoft.com/?kbid=829786

I had followed those steps to fix it. It got rid of the error prompt,
but I instead got another error that said something like "the
instruction at "#x######" referenced memory at "#x#####" ..." It
forced me to restart.

I got the unregmp2.exe error which is how I found this discussion. Had
to click it 100+ times. And now the blue screen of death, forced to
shut Windows down error. I realllllly need help with this; I've never
had any problems like this on my PC before. Hadn't changed anything on
it recently.

*I know this isn't very technical, but I received the same message
when doing a repair to Windows XP Home and I kept clicking on OK for
about 3 or 4 minutes. It got past the unregmp2.exe error and back
into Windows. Now I am running all the critical updates that would
have been wiped out from doing the repair. I also received a
rundll32.exe error (winsta.dll) when right clicking My Computer after
doing the repair, but hopefully all will go away with the updates. *

Thanks for the post, by constantly clicking the okay button on the
error message did allow for the continuation of the installation. If I
get more errors I will also post the fixes. Lets hope I get no errors
