SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition to Microsoft X
Professional, or if you try to repair Windows XP Home Edition o
Windows XP Professional, you may receive the following error message:
UNREGMP2.EXE - Entry Point Not Found-
The procedure entry point getIUMS could not be located in the dynami
link library msdart.dll.
If you click OK, the error message reappears. If you continue to clic
OK to close the error message, the message will eventually sto
appearing. This typically takes between 50 and 60 clicks.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the most current version of Microsoft Window
Media Player is installed. The current version is Microsoft Window
Media Player 10. When you try to upgrade or to repair Windows XP, th
Setup program will try to install an earlier version of Windows Medi
Player in addition to the newer version. The installation will the
generate the error message and stop.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use Task Manager to close the erro
message. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Press SHIFT + F10 to open
Command Prompt window.
2. Type taskmgr.exe and then press ENTER.
3. Click the Applications tab.
4. In the list of tasks, click the error message entry.
5. Click End Task.
6. Quit Task Manager.
7. Close the Command Prompt window.
If the error message returns or continues to display, follow thes
steps: 1. Press SHIFT + F10 to open a Command Prompt window.
2. Type taskmgr.exe, and then press ENTER.
3. Click the Processes tab.
4. Click unregmp2.exe in the list of processes.
5. Click End Process.
6. Quit Task Manager.
7. Close the Command Prompt window.
