Unread Mail won't stay in Favorite folders. Why?

In Outlook 2003, I can move Unread Mail to the Favorite Folders pane, but
when I turn the program off, Unread Mail isn't a Favorite Folder the next
time. It's aggravating!

the xml file is either corrupt or outlook isn't closing completely. delete
the xml and start over - if that fails, the profile is bad.

Thanks, but I don't know what the xml file is. I DID experiment further, and
NO folder will stay in Favorite Folders. I moved it by dragging it, I moved
it by right-clicking and moving it, and could not get Favorite Folders to
retain it after I turned Outlook off. BTW, I also do not know what "the
profile" is. I read somewhere that Unread Mail is supposed to be a Fav.
Folder by default, but that's clearly not the case in the software I have.

Thanks again.

the xml file holds the toolbar information. the /resetnavpane switch to
delete it and see if it helps.

It worked on the second try (go figure). Now the Fav. Folders pane includes
it. But (just to be picky) I can't pick the location of Unread Mail--it
won't go to the top and stay. Still, this is a great improvement. Thanks.

the inability of the folder to stay where you move it probably means the
profile is corrupt. Can you add new folders?

Also - make sure outlook closes completely (look in task manager) - changes
aren't written to the file until outlook exits and it won't write them on
crashes etc.

I added a test folder and it seemed to work fine. I checked the task manager
after I closed Outlook and it wasn't listed so I assume that means it's fine.
