Unmountable boot disk

Hello all,

I have a Compaq presario and it is about 1yr old. The problem I am having is
that it won't boot. I see the same blue screen with the same message
"Unmountable Boot Disk" I tired to boot up in safe mode, command mode, and
even boot up in its "Last Known Good Configuration" all were unsuccessful. I
then tried to reintall and it doesn't even read my Windows XP CD room (I
changed the boot sequence to look at the CD-Rom.) Is this a hardware or
software issue?

Carlos;
Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at
both ends.
Laptop:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.
If that fails:

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and
download their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without their overlay
software which is not needed anyway.
