Unlocking a computer

I am running Windos XP (Home). My computer has
inadvertently become locked and i don't know the
password. We are still able to use it; however, we can
not login under any other account than the
administrator. When attempting to switch users, a
message appears saying this computer is locked and can
only be open by the adminstrator and it provides the
unlock/login screen.

Any ideas?

Check around in the Control Panel / User accounts to see if there has been
restrictions placed on the other accounts other than the Administrator.

What I do requires a second hard drive with an operating
system on it, such as WIN98. You simply set this to MASTER
and your other hard drive to slave - this way you can
retrieve any important files off of your 'locked' hard
drive. After you've done this, reverse the master/slave
relationship, format your 'locked' hard drive and re-
install XP, and any other programs you had before.
HINT for the future: I ALWAYS have 2 hard drives installed,
Master/Slave (C & D or E) and keep all of my important
files on the Slave drive - that way, if your operating
system has problems - you can reinstall it without
affecting your important data
