Unknown User

Hello,

This morning I opened the User Profile dialog and saw the Unknown Users
listed. One said it was modified yesterday, 6/29/2006. I removed them and
there was no problem removing the first two, but the third, which was
Modified yesterday, took a while and when it was done, most of my desktop
icons and filed disappeared, my quicklaunch buttons were gone, and some of
the icons on my system tray. I lost a lot of settings, like in Outlook, my
bookmarks in IE and other strange things. I always log in under the same
user name.

Anyone know what happened? Can it be reversed?

Thanks and God Bless,

Mark

if you deleted the users but retained their files you can explore all user
and move those desktop items from their files into yours. go to start and
right click on "all programs" If you deleted those user files,
then do a restore to get them back. Then explore all users and move those
desktop and program file shortcuts into yours and delete those unwelcomed
guests again. You might want to download "profile hive cleanup" from
microsoft.com

I found a copy of my desktop and when I rebooted just now, I got my
quicklaunch window back. As far as the "profile hive cleanup", I'll leave
well enough alone. I'd trust a virus rather than something Microsoft
developed, to help me.

Thank you for the help.
