Unknown Folders

Hi: Hadn't looked in my "Windows" folder for some time.

Today I did, and there are 17 folders called $NTUninstallKB......$$, and two
folders called $MSI31Uninstall_KB........$ , and one called $HF-MIG$

What are they, do they serve any purpose, and can I safely remive them?
If I did not trust my firewall and AVG system, I'd suspect they would be some
sort of virus or malware.

Thanks for any suggestions!

These are normal. They are backups of the files that were replaced by various hotfixes and/or updates.

They can be safely removed, IF you don't need to uninstall the Hotfix/update.

To automatically remove them, and their associated Add/Remove Programs entries, see www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Remove Hotfix Backup Files.
