"unknown error" dialog box when trying to capture

i get an "unknown error" dialog box when trying to start capturing.
in another video capturing program i get my captures with sound errors.
i re-installed the programs and the usb drivers but it did not help.

Are you using USB to capture? While I hear it can do video, it's really only
suited for still photos. Hopefully your camcorder has a 1394 FireWire
connection - that's really the standard for transferring video from camera
to computer...
