When I go to browse the network through my network places. I click entire
network --> entire contents --> Microsoft Windows Network. I see our domain
lets called it domain A. I also see a unkown domain called DVSR. I have
know idea where this domain came from and I can't figure out how to remove
it. I've been stuck on this issue for months. When I try to browse domain
dvsr i get an error stating domain not accesible. Pleas help.

Is it truly a domain, or is it a workgroup whose name was introduced into
your network by someone bringing in a laptop/PC from outside?

Hello,

Thanks for posting!

Please verify if there is any reference in WINS/DNS server about the DVSR.
If so, please remove the DVSR entires. In addition, please confirm if you
have install Cisco route such as SmartEdge 800.

Happy New Year!

Best Regards,

Jason Tan

I do npt see any reference in DNS or WINS. Also the only CISCO devices we
have are some switches, routers, and a pix.

it never was a domain. My assumption is it was a workgroup but i can't get
it to go away. Its been like this for as long as I have worked here.

I would suspect that someone in your office has a laptop or other portable
computer that they are connecting to their home network and that's where the
mystery workgroup is coming from. Unless it is a real cause for concern for
you (like maybe folks ain't supposed to be doing this!) I would simply
ignore it.

I really would perfer not to just ignore it. I have to answer the questions
what this is and it make the IT look really bad when we can't explain what it
is or remove it.

Then start beating employees until someone owns up to it.

That's your only other option.

Is there no way to manually remove the domain?

Make the person who's bringing in the laptop or PC with the foreign
workgroup quit doing it - because every time they re-connect the workgroup
will appear again. You could get rid of it (for now) by shutting down and
restarting every PC on your network at the same time as that will make the
workgroup name vanish.

It is no big deal. It is not a security issue. It is not a performance
issue. The only possible issue is whether or not the person doing this is
violating rules or guidelines on use of your business' PCs on an outside
network.
