Unix <--> MS-DOS converter as shell extension?

Charles Blaquière

I'd love to have a no-frills shell extension that would convert UNIX-style
text files to MS-DOS format and vice-cersa. There was such a utility, called
TextTools, but it has disappeared from the Web. Does anyone have pointers to
another? Googling around led me nowhere. Thanks!

I just went to
www.google.co.uk and typed in `texttools` and you know what ?.
Results 1 - 10 of about 30,000 for texttools. (0.20 seconds). Try again.

QEdit (no link, sorry) can read either and saves DOS files.

It looks as if EditPad Pro will also <http://www.editpadpro.com>.

This appears to be akin to your TextTools (shell extension, mac->unix->
dos conversions), but it's pretty old, for Win95/NT:

Yes, but these are command-line or Windows programs, not shelll extensions.
Googling "texttools shell extension" leads nowhere, at least nowhere that
still exists.

Shell Extension City does have this description:
TEXT TOOLS.......... TextTools Shell Extension is a free, helpful Windows
utility designed for anyone who frequently works with text files. It works
with the Windows Explorer right-click menu to offer a range of useful text
file manupulation tools, without the hassle to launch an application else
where and brows for the file. Changes unix format to Win32, and changes tabs
to spaces, from the context menu.....(free).....

However this is a dead link.

I believe that the WayBack Machine for this site showed that the download
file used to be: txttools.zip

I did a search, though not extensively and came up empty handed.

Yes, when you looking for what the unwashed would refer to as 'obscure', you
gotta have the correct keyword query with google to get much of anywhere.

I tried the following query: "shell extensions" "unix to dos" text conversion

as in:

22+%22unix+to+dos%22+text+conversion>

and got 21 results from 63 english pages in 0.62 seconds.

I leave seeing if some of these results will help as an exercise for the
class.
