Uninstalling Windows Components

Guest

Hi

I have Win XP SP2 installed on my laptop. I have recently noticed this
problem:

When I select Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Add/ Remove Windows
Components, a message box opens up with the message "Please Wait", followed
by an errox box with the following message: "Setup was unalbe to open
information file pinball.inf. Contact your system administrator. The specific
error code is 0x2 at line 2088999411. [OK]"

When I click on the 'OK' button, the Add/Remove Windows Components window
closes down. I am unable to add/delete any windows components.

Can anybody help me out?

TIA

Hi Ramesh

I have expanded the file pinball.in_ from the win xp cd to c:\program
files\windows nt\pinball\pinball.inf (file size 3551 bytes, august 17, 2001).

when i try t oadd/remove windows components, the same error occurs. I right
clicked on pinball.inf and selected "install". After that , I got the same
error message when i tried to add/remove.

when i try to select "install additional components" option from the CD
Autorun menu, I get the same error message.

is there any way i can install pinball by itself?

TIA

Sasha

Hi Ramesh

It worked...Thanks a lot......one more thing...

when i opened the Add/Remove Windows components, I saw a Windows Messenger
Icon, with an unchecked box ( i had uninstalled it earlier). Under neath
it...I saw another icon ( a grey square standing on it's edge) with the
legend windows Messenger next to it, and a check in the check box. When i
click on this check box, nothjing happens.

I am rebooting my machine to see if it solves the problem....

OK

I rebooted the machine. Findings after rebooting:

Everything seems OK except for :

In Add/Remove Windows components:

Windows Messenger ( with the normal green man shaped Messenger icon) and no
tick in the check box
immediately below this
Windows Messenger (with a grey square icon standing on it's edge) and no
tick in the check box.

going by the saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...gonna let htings stay
the way they are...

thanks
