uninstalling style xp broke my vista

i recently upgraded xp to vista - and i mostly like it.

unfortunatly i had style xp befor ei upgraded (and it didn't pop up on the
list of programs i must uninstall before i upgrade). style xp kept crashiong
on start up, so i decided to uninstall it (i don't want it any more anyway)
but it's made a mess. all the themes i had are still in the themes drop down
list (which is irratating), but worse still - i'm missing icons.

my computer, recycle bin, network places, some drive ocons, some other stuff
all missing. i managed to get a couple back by setting my theme to vista, but
i can't recover the rest. i've tried selecting new icons for thing
(properties > choose icon) but i can only set it to a different icon - i
can't get the proper ones back; and in any case, there's no properties for
some of the things that have lost there icons

what can i do to get my icons back?

Hi Sean,

There's no telling what damage StyleXP did to Vista's shell. Attempting to
uninstall it and the hooks it had in the system (which were likely imported
into Vista) only has made things worse. You might check with the
distributors of that program for advice on how to undo the damage it has
done, otherwise you may find that the only way out is to backup data you
wish to keep and do a clean installation.

As to upgrade advisor, it isn't perfect. It checks for known hardware
incompatibilities and for software that may have driver issues. It cannot
possibly know what every single program out there might do to Vista
