Uninstalling devices in Windows XP Home

R

Robert M Jones

I am building a new system and having difficulty
installing the audio drivers for the onboard sound
on the mobo using the mobo utility CD. All the
other drivers have installed from the CD as per
instructions but the audio driver installation
routine finishes each time saying it has not found
a driver and to reboot.
In device driver there are various codecs under
audio but no entry for a sound card.

I also can't see how to remove devices in Device
manager.
I'm new to WinXP having been reared on Win98SE.
I am logged on as an Administrator.

Any clues as to what might be going wrong with
installing the onboard audio drivers?

Foxconn mobo 760GXK8MC
Windows XP Home
Many thanks.

Is the onboard sound enabled in the BIOS? Sounds like it isn't.

Just right click on the device you want to remove and select uninstall. Or
select the device, click on Action at the top of the screen and select
uninstall.

You got it Malke! Deep within the BIOS there was
an obscure and not at all obvious setting in the
PnP device configuration (I think) which had
disabled onboard sound. I only found it by working
through every setting and hitting enter to get
more information on each one. As soon as I had
done that, the hardware wizard spotted the onboard
sound and I was able to get the drivers installed.
Strange that a board with onboard sound should
have it disabled by default.
Many many thanks.

Super! I'm glad I was able to help. Thanks for taking the time to let me
know.

Enjoy your new machine.
