Uninstalling a service pack to load package Q320174?

E

Eric Orth

To read my Nero CD's I need to load this Q package but
this error message pops up. "You can only install this
update on a computer with no Service Packs installed." I
didn't load any service packs before so I'm assuming that
they came with my eMachines version of windows XP. How
do I solve this?

Check by running WinVer and see if the System version reported says
'Service Pack 1'.

The files that get replaced by that fix exist in *later* versions still
in SP1. So if you have SP1 installed and are having trouble I very much
doubt if this fix is going to be helpful. Are they ones produced as
sessions by Nero itself (if so what version was it?) or are they ones
from the related InCD (in which case you probably need to install an XP
compatible version of Nero and InCD - 5.5 at least or the current
version 6

Yes, I have service pack 1. My Nero is V 4.0. (4 years
old and designed for Windows 95 and NT) I don't think I
have the InCD.

Versions produce by Nero itself, by dragging to a compilation window in
it and then burning the CD, should read without trouble in XP as they
are a standard format (ISO 9660 with Joliet). But there is always the
probability of hardware mismatch with a new machine. Matching of media
between burner and reader is something of black art. The burner has to
ensure it burns well through the dye on a 1 or hardly at all on a 0, and
then the reader has to be set so it takes the mid point between the
resulting reflectivities as the switch point. You could try to borrow
some other machine that *does* read your disks, then copy them, checking
different disk makes to get compatibility. But I don't think the fix
you were looking at is going to be a help.
