uninstall windows xp

I am trying to uninstall windows XP from my computer
because i installed and registered it on my wifes
computer first and i din't realize that it was going to
not allow me to put it on my computer as well. So now i
am trying to get rid of it. There is no way to take it
out with the add/remove programs and i have also tried
going into the system32 file and doing osuninst.exe but
it won't let me because it says "Setup cannot uninstall
Windows XP because the necessary registration information
is missing", no kidding! So now how do i get rid of it
and just go back to 2000

Boot the machine with 98 boot disk and format the hard drive.
Reinstall 2000. If you boot the machine with your 2000 CD it's not
going to allow you to update or overwrite a later version of Windows.
