Uninstall Quicktime 6

N

Nick Hill

Hi

System: Win XP Pro SP1, IE6 SP1 both fully patched, Quicktime 6.

Checking the Lara Croft Movie site last night, my system installed the
Quicktime 6 browser plug-in. Now, every time I boot, I get a Quicktime icon
in the system tray, I can right click & exit the program. The installation
has not left a menu option in Start/Programs & there is no option to
uninstall in Add/Remove programs. C:\program file\quicktime has 2 files
qtplugin.ocx & qttask.exe. The registry has many Quicktime entries.

I do not want Quicktime, how do I uninstall this please?

Regards
Nick

Hi

The reason you get a Quicktime icon in the Taskbar is that 'qttask.exe' is loading via msconfig>startup - you can uncheck that entry. For 'qtplugin.ocx' - try this:

Start>Run - then type in "regsvr32 /u qtplugin.ocx" - without the quotes.

.
Hello!
Use REGCLEANER or,JV POWER TOOLS to remove those junk
registries. When you run it you will find QuickTime. You
simply uncheck the boxes to get rid of the spurious
registry entries.

Nick, did you check in Control Panel (classic view) for a Quick Time icon.
I believe you should find the disable startup settings you want there.

I'm surprised you don't have a listing in Add/Remove Programs for this. If
Quicktime installed as a browser plugin only, you should at least find an
icon for it in Windows\Downloaded Program Files. Right clicking on the icon
should show a Remove option. Before using this, you may want to double
check the quicktime site (www.apple.com) for more complete removal
instructions for the version of Quicktime you downloaded.

I had the same problem and you were right on with your advice for the
control panel and icon and selecting it to open allows a tick mark to
uncheck the system tray startup thus allowing you to keep it for
viewing purposes someday in the backround. Thanks, Nick
