Uninstall preloaded Video Professor?

D

Dave

A new WinXP Home computer I just purchased came with Video Professor
preinstalled. This annoying program loads automatically every time the
computer is booted. VP does not show up in Startup or Add/Remove
Programs, and the contents of ..\Program files\Video Professor\ will
not display even when the folder properties are set to show hidden
files, etc., and the directories cannot be deleted or renamed. I can't
find anything in the registry that looks related (but it must be there
somewhere).

Does anybody have any idea how I can get rid of this pest?

Thanks
Dave

First, stop the program from starting with Windows by going to Start>All
Programs>Run and typing "msconfig" without the quotes. Find the culprit
on the Startup tab and uncheck it. Apply and OK out. You don't need to
restart immediately, but the next time you do you'll get a notice that
you've used the System Configuration Utility (duh!) - just check the
box in the lower left corner that basically says, "don't bother me with
this".

Then go into Safe Mode and find the Video Professor folder/files and
first look for a file called something like "uninstall.exe" or the
like. If there is one, double-click it and hopefully it will uninstall
itself. Otherwise you'll just have to delete them manually and clean up
your registry.

Then contact the place you bought the computer and tell them how
irritated you are.

If you need more help, please post back.

Cheers,

One extra point: They may have been set as 'superhidden'. Make sure
you have Folder Options - View set to show Hidden files, *and* *not*
Hide Protected mode ones
