unchecking or deleting startup items

i am using windows 2000, service pack 3, 5.00.2195.

in windows xp i can go to start, run, and enter 'msgonfig.' the last tab
would allow me to uncheck things in startup that are not needed and slowing
up my overall system performance.

i can't find how to do this in windows 2000. the closest i get is admin.
tools, computer management, system info, software environment, startup
programs. i get a list of startup programs here, but it does not allow me to
delete or uncheck startup items that are slowing down my system.

does anyone know what i need to do in order to remove these programs from
startup

There's no msconfig in Win2k, although you can copy msconfig.exe from an XP
computer to yours....or see http://www.jsiinc.com/subi/tip4200/rh4221.htm
