Unblock Google.com

Hi, I am unable to open mail.google.com or www.google.com web-sites, whereas
I am able to access mail.google.co.in web site on my laptop. How can I
unblock web-sites? I am using IE6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.

What happens when you try to access them? Page cannot be displayed?

Check your hosts in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts for lines with the
google address and remove them.

Check that your proxy allows you to connect to google.com, if you are using
a proxy server.

Try using Firefox - www.firefox.com - an alternative browser and see if it
is able to connect.

Finally, it might just be a temporary routing problem which can fix itself
in a few hours and a computer/router restart.

Hi,

Thank you. It did work.

Yes, I was able to access gmail using FireFox, still I was not able to
access google.com.

Removing google address line from c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts did
fix all of my issues.

Please let me know what is this hosts file used for, and how is it populated?
