UNATTENDED BACKUP IN WINDOWS XP PRO

R

Randall Rosenbaum

I've had an ongoing problem trying to schedule unattended backups in Windows
XP Pro. Our family computer has five separate profiles (? identities? login
names?) set up to accomodate different family members. The scheduler that
comes with Windows (and the schedulers that come with all the backup
software I've tried) seem to need for me to be signed in to work, and that's
not always the case. Even if I logged on it doesn't seem to work. Then
when I sign in the next morning it all starts up, just when I don't want
backup to run. I have been using Nero 6 for backup, but would be happy to
use anything that works.

Any suggestions?

Randall,

You must install it for all users. I suggest you install as Adminsitrator
and make sure that you have set the password correctly in Scheduler. I use
"Backup My PC" by Veritas which is a superior edition of the native NTbackup
which comes with Windows which you could also use.
When you have set you schedule, open Windows Scheduler and open the
properties of the backup. Click "run now" to check that is working [if it
does not start the password has not been set correctly]. If it starts OK
then stop it and log on using another profile and check that the schedule is
in place and works OK. If it does not you will have to create the schedule
for each porfile to make sure you are OK.
