Unattended Backup using XP backup not working

Using backup tool within XP and 2000 to backup to mapped network drive.
Works flawlessly (permissions ok) while user is logged into network...however
schedule is set for off duty hours when user is logged OUT. When logged out
and task tries to begin - event viewer says "Operation Failed - consult
backup report." eventID: 8017. Backup report says operation was not
performed because the specified media cannot be found. Media is there as
mapped "Home" drive and user has write rights.

WHY CAN'T I DO UNATTENDED BACKUP? WHAT CAN I LOOK FOR?

Have user lock desktop instead of logging off, you are losing the network
map when they log out
