Unable to update...

When I go to the Windows Update site, it tells me that I need to install the
following:

Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
0 KB , 0 minutes (Downloaded; ready to install)
The Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool enables you to verify that
your copy of Microsoft Windows is genuine. The tool validates your Windows
installation by checking Windows Product Identification and Product
Activation status.
Total: 0 KB , 0 minutes (Downloaded; ready to install)

However, the installation fails every time. The Update History however
shows no failures. I have tried downloading KB892130 manually but can't
seem to find it anywhere. I have also removed the
'Windows/system32/CatRoot2' folder, to no avail.

Does anyone know what's going on? Using Windows XP HE with SP2.

You might want to post to the experts in the Windows Update newsgroup:

The WGA diagnostic tool has been updated to correct
a problem seen by some users.

Please download and execute it from:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

After running the tool, please return to Windows Update and try it again.

Yes, that worked. Thank you. Now I have a new problem. Windows Updates
found 9 critical updates (which it didn't before I ran your diagnostic
tool), it downloads them, but fails to install them. Update History shows
no failures. I had to download/install the 9 updates manually. I still
have 5 non-critical updates to take care of. I will try the windows.update
group but if you have any pointers, do let me know.
