Unable to start in Safe Mode

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 and recently the monitor started to flutter and
caused performance problems. I was able to start in safe mode and there was
no fluttering but recently when I try to go into safe mode, I get the
message "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\" and then list a variety of
drivers and then then appears to stop.

Is there anyway to get past this. When I restart the computer outside of
safe mode, the Windows logo shows that its loading but then the screen goes
blank.

Sounds like you are having problems with your video adapter. Does the
machine have a video card or are you running on board video?

Can you boot into "Normal" mode (it may sound obvious, but you did not say you
couldn't)

If not, have you tried the "Last Known Good" choice on the same screen?

Also, I forgot to ask, have you tried VGA mode? - Since this is a video-related
problem, it's possible that booting into VGA mode may allow Windows to load with
basic VGA video drivers...
