Unable to send mail

Hello-

I have a W2K laptop thatŒs unable to send Email via SMTP (not Exchange) from
Outlook. It connects fine to receive email (and the server is not the
problem, as it works fine with a similar setup on a different machine, and
with all other clients). The Send/Receive Progress dialog just shows
"Processing" and "Sending Messages", but eventually times out with a message
like "server is not available" or "server is not responding". 0x800ccc0f is
one of the error codes I'm seeing. But at the same time I can check the
server, and it's responding fine. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Thanks in advance for any clues.

Can you ping the smtp? If yes, maybe you need to change
the timeout settings on that account. Go to the respective
account, properties and ADVANCED tab...

Yes, I can ping the server, and it works fine for other machines at the
exact same time (as it does for receiving mail on that particular machine).
That's actually what I meant by "I can check the server..."; should have
phrased that better.
It's definitely something to do with Outlook on that laptop, not anything
with the server.
