Unable to save excel file

I have an Excel workbookthat is 10mb in size. A number of people ar
using a copy of the file, on desktop pc's not a network, most ru
without problems so it would appear the file is ok. However, and her
is the problem, when one user runs it, he cannot save the file. he
gets a message saying document not saved. He can save other excel file
but not this one. The user is some way from me so we have to try t
sort this over the phone. Apart from the obvious issue of disk space
does anybody have any ideas what may be causing this problem. Any hel
that you could give will be much appreciated.

When you save a file, excel will save it as a temporary file (8 characters, no
extension). Then if that save is successful, excel will delete the original and
rename this funny named file to the original's name.

You see the results when something interferes with this process.

A couple of things that get pointed at are antivirus software and network
problems (hardware or permissions).

I'd try to eliminate those things. Turn AV off and see what happens.

But I think I'd send a fresh copy of the workbook to see if that fixed it.
Maybe something got broken in the ether. (I'd zip it first. Then if something
bad happened to the zip file in the transmission, you'd know about it right
away--when the user tried to expand it.)

Is there any chance that the "copy" is *not* stored on their hard drive ?

XL doesn't like to run from alternate media.
