UNable to save excel files

Problem Description:

1. Some of the users are unable to open Excel files and save it on the same
location on a file share
2. Error message reads "changes couldn’t be saved and was saved to temporary
file called. Close the existing document and save the file from temporary
document"
3. SAN file share running on VERITAS cluster s/w
4. Users browse to the document and open it directly from the share
5. As an I’ am unable to change the security tab as it is not available for
some of the files. Security tab is gone and comes up as “Access Deniedâ€
6. Issue on a specific drive on a specific folder
7. New files created have no issues and issue is reported only with Excel
documents
8. Thousands of users on this volume only some of the users are complaining
about this issue
9. Need confirmation if the Excel files are corrupted and what can resolve
this issue
10. Excel sheets are not shared
11. Now the issue is seen for multiple files extensions not only excel

Environment:

1. Server installed with Win 2003 Std SP2
2. Windows file share is configured on a SAN storage running on VERITAS
cluster
3. Client side: Windows XP SP2 installed with Office 2003

Hi we are experiencing the same issues however we were having these
exact problems before we moved to SAN as well. In addition now we
have an issue when you click save in excel it goes through the motions
normally. When you open the file there are not any of the changes
included however there is a numbered file in the directory with no
file extension. Our environment is still Excel / Office 2000
