Unable to remove software

I installed a tax guide software. While using it, it crashed. I want to
remove it, but when I go into the control panel (add or remove software) and
try to remove it, I get the message "This application has unexpectedly quit.
Invocation of this Java Application has caused an InvocationTargetException.
This application will now exit (LAX)." I am using Windows XP.

What does this mean? And how do I get rid of the application?

Its a Java Programming error:

You can always use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

Be careful using it as you would need to re-install applications deleted by
the above utility

You will then need to remove the program files folder for the application

Old trick that may work for you. Install it again and THEN unintall it,
may have been a corrupt file, who knows.
