Unable to reinstall NIC-driver

First of all (off topic): This is the first time I seek help using a
newsgroup so I hope I've used the correct discussiongroup etc.

I'm using a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet NIC, which is integrated
with my
ASUS A7V8X-Deluxe motherboard. Currently, when clicking into the properties
of the NIC/driver, it states: "This unit is not configured correctly. (Code
1)", "Click on
Reinstall driver if you want to reinstall drivers for this unit." (Note: I'm
using the swedish-langualized version of Win2K and so not all translations
will match the English Win2K.

Clicking on Reinstall Driver, inserting driver-diskette (Also have tried
with downloaded ASUS/Broadcom-drivers), if I choose 'Choose driver from a
list', it will
end up with "Upgrading driver is finishing", "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit
Ethernet",
"An Error occured while the unit was being installed", "Cannot find file"
(Doesn't
say which file). - No Change.

If I instead choose the first alternative 'Search for a suitable driver for
the unit (recommended)', browse to where I have the drivers, click OK, it
tells me: "A suitable driver for this unit is already installed. Click Cancel
if you want to keep the current driver. Click Back if you want to search for
a driver in a different location. Click Next if you want to reinstall the
driver.", "c:\winnt\inf\oem0.inf". - No Change.

I have been using the computer-setup for +1 year without any problems until
now. I
inserted a working PCI-Slot NIC from RealTek/Micronet and it gave the same
problems. I've also reinstalled (upgrade-option) Win2K, the problem remains.

Thanks for taking the time to read and thanks in advance for any help/advices!

Continue: I ran filemon during the process, hoping to find out more about
this missing file, and from the results I suspect 'CATADMIN' (C:\CATADMIN) is
what it cannot find, supposedly I've been drunken and foolish enough to
delete it. I've surfed the net to find information about the catalog and its
content, and come up with nothing. Obviously using the upgrade-option to
reinstall Win2K doesn't recreate this catalog. Could it be Microsoft Office
2003? Doubtful. What to do?

I don't believe 'Catadmin' is anything connected with win2k, or office for
that matter.
I assume you've also tried deleting the device, in hardware devices,
rebooting to see if win reinstalls the driver correctly?

You assume correct. No change. If Catadmin isn't connected with the OS then
it must be connected with the driver-installation, as I have it on black and
white C:\CATADMIN FILE NOT FOUND, beside this error while reinstalling the
driver there's just one name collision reported, more or less convincing me
Catadmin's M.I.A. has to be a problem...
