unable to open old Word Perfect 5.1 files saved on floppy

I have a floppy disk with a manuscript written in Word
Perfect 5.1. I cannot open it in Word. When I have opened
it, all I get is junk characters.

Anybody know how to access Word Perfect files? I'm using
Windows XP Professional.

I hope its not important.

Because floppys tend to loose date if your not carefully.

I would copy it to your hard disk and a few other places.

Do you have Word Perfect 5.1 >?? if so will it work on XP ?

Sorry can't help, do a google Wordperfect file viewing or somthing
like that.

You can install Word perfect. If you have Word there should be a converter.
And maybe there is a free viewer.(probably can't edit files)

Word 2000 (9.0.2720)
should have a "converter" but I can't seem to find it

It probably doesn't install the WP filters by default. You'll probably have
to update your Word installation.

The other thing is that one should NEVER open files on a floppy in Word or any office app.

1. It''s slow - word is a disk editor not a memory editor
2. Word works on copies of the file (more than one depending on settings) so you will quickly run out of floppy disk space and crash.
