Unable to "logon" to newsgroups with IE6

Before anyone asks, I logged on to pose this question from a 2nd PC with IE7.
On my IE6 PC, when I try to 'SignIn', the page accepts my email address and
password and then returns to the newsgroup page without any messages, but on
the page I still the the 'SignIn' icon, not the 'SignOut' icon like I see
now. I cannot start a question or comment on that PC. I am guessing I have
some security setting that blocks this but I don't know what it is. I have a
similar situation with a Yahoo Groups logon that works on the IE7 PC but not
on the IE6 PC.

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Mike

Hi PA Bear,

Thanks for the reply. I read the article but am not sure how this would
help. If I go to the 'clean boot' state, what do I do next to troubleshoot?
I'm not getting any error messages, just a message about leaving a secure
site; then I'm put back where I started. Am also a little worried about step
4, losing all restore points.

Don't mess with System Restore at this point.

Trial & error: Basically you want to disable all unnecessary apps/services
from loading at boot, then reboot > Add one of them back into the Startup
list, reboot and test > If all is well, add another one, reboot & test >
Etc., etc., until you've (hopefully) identified the troublemaker (most
likely culprit: a toolbar that includes a pop-up blocker).
