Unable to install Adobe Reader 7.07

MapleE.

Hi:
In my Laptop, I am NOT able to install 7.07.
My laptop is Compaq Presario C306US
Notebook PC

Error popping up in the middle of screen,

"Error 1334. The file 'read0700win_ENUyhooo0010 pd' cannot
be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file
'Data 1 cab.' This could indicate a network error. an error
reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."

Any clues on this would be truly appreciated.

Download and install the latest version instead.
It sounds like a corrupt file - so getting a new download of 7.0.8 may fix
your issue - if it does not - look through the adobe faqs for more
assistance with installing the adobe product.

Hi:
I went to the site and posted, however there are many, many of the thread
has been un-answered. This indicates a lot of issues on Adobe Reader
and its related programs.

Wondering whether there is some 'good' site to get it answered, because
I need one soon.

Thanks,

Are you only using Adobe Acrobat Reader?

You may find Foxit a better alternative. It depends on how
and what use you make of Acrobat Reader.

An alternative to Adobe is Foxit.

Far less hassle than Adobe!

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry Cornell:

Thanks for your concern and an alternative, but I still love
to have this, 'Acrobat Reader,' mainly because I know and
used to it. It's hard for me to change after many years' use.

One thing of which I can think is that I changed 'resolution' by
accessing 'Display' < Control, because I prefer a bit 'brightness.'

It turned out to be a good move for my eyes, but it might be
a bad effect to the Adobe Reader?

I still not get a resolution on this on Adobe 'Forum' I posted
yesterday. It may never happen, ... then I plan to use it on the PC
when I need it. There is NO problem 'downloading/upgrading' on
the PC, from either Acrobat web-site or notification popping-up
at the right bottom corner.

Thanks,

I never tried Foxit, but frankly, I think you should try Ghostscript and
GSview. If you install these two apps, you'll have a free and open
source alternative to Acrobat Reader. A very interesting replacement
IMHO, since it's amazingly fast (nothing to do with Acrobat Reader).

If you're interested, first get Ghostscript
(http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/doc/AFPL/index.htm ) and then install
GSview ( http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/index.htm ).

I would have agreed before I used FoxIt several years ago...

When I use Windows, Ghostscript, GSview and OpenOffice.org meet all of
my needs, which are rather basic (essentially PDF creation, conversion,
display, printing, and some other basic features) therefore I haven't
searched further. I can't compare GSview with Foxit since I never used
the latter, so a little & honest comparison from someone who knows both
would be nice. All in all, I think we can say that both are better
(faster and lighter) than Adobe's reader.
