Unable to Insert Movie

I have suddenly lost the ability to insert a movie into my Powerpoint
presentations. The old files still work and the movies play but when I try
to enter a new movie, I just get the endless hourglass icon.

I have gone through the codecs, reloaded Powerpoint 2003, Office 2003
service pack 1, and checked the registry. Can not seem to find any likely
cause.

I assume that it was caused by loading an MP4 codec from 3ivx, which I have
since uninstalled but still no change.

I can insert a movie by dragging the file to the Powerpoint Slide (it plays
in Windows Media Player) but that is awkward.

I'm glad you fessed up and didn't blame powerpoint
You may think you uninstalled it but usually they still remain or something
else took over its position.
I would download and install a small program called GSpot (don't mind the
name)
http://www.headbands.com/gspot

Load up your file in the program and see what filter/decoder is being used
the new version of gspot allows you to unregister the decoder on the fly
You have to enable advanced operation thou, under one of the option menus
Good luck

lost?

Thanks.

Nothing worked (loaded XP service pack 2 & Powerpoint) until I reloaded the
drivers for my TDK Video Capture Device. Back to where it was.
