Unable to get upgrade to IE6 to run

Howard B

I run Win 98Se, and have tried several times to upgrade IE
to IE6 SP1, and every time when I try to run it I get the
same unhelpful message that it has encountered a problem
and needs to close. Then when reverting to the previous
version it goes right back to IE5 instead of the 5.5 I was
using.

I've checked for spyware and removed all the stuff I found.

I've checked the registry using System Mechanic, and all
seems well.

I've defragmented the drives etc., and tried with and
without the firewall running, and with and without other
stuff running, and the result is always the same. Maybe I
have the wrong hairstyle....??

I'm getting desperate now, and really do need some help to
sort this out please - or else move to a third-party
browser!!

TIA, Howard B
