Unable to download critical updates

After a major system crash and re-installing XP, I find
the system now needs all the updates I had previously
downloaded. Unfortunately these updates are now well over
40MB and my connection fails before the first pack is
downloaded (even though it has taken over two hours). I
have now tried twice but the files on disk give an error
message saying they cannot be opened (probably because
they are incomplete). Being a pensioner I cannot afford
Virgin Broadband connection and sometimes their normal
connection speed is less than 28.8Kbps.
Can anyone help?

Well, if your coonection is not stable you might try using a friend internet
and download and burn them to CD's.

You can download all the updates at the Windows Catalog.

Many thanks for your reply, but I haven't so far been
able to find anyone who might do this for me. It's about
time Microsoft could supply all these downloads on CD for
us in the UK instead of only in USA!
