Unable to delete old PSTs

I have a number of PST files that show on my Outlook folder list, they got
imported from an older Outlook install I had - made the mistake of keeping
old settings. But these PSTs had been deleted before so no PSTs actually
exists. If I try to close the PST I get an error message that the "object
does not exist". How can I remove these PSTs? I have tried everything.

Obviously you haven't tried everything. You haven't tried creating a new
mail profile. By deleting a PST prior to closing it in Outlook, you've
corrupted your mail profile. You don't state your version of Outlook, so
here's how to create a profile for OL 2002:

I tried to create a ne wrpofile, and had Outlook prompt for it but Outlook
still opens with all the PST's I had connected before. Just so you know, I
have about 12 seperate PSTs connected for data storage. But now about 3 have
the folder PST listed, but the PST does not exist.

Are you suggesting a create a new profile that has no PSTs except the
OUTLOOK.PST created by default and then reconnect to all the ones I do need?
So far that has not worked.

OK, I think I got it. I did create a new profile, imported the data from my
exisiting "personal folders" PST and reconnected to the data storage PSTs I
have and it appears clean. Can I delete the original profile "Microsoft
Outlook Internet Setings" - it looks like a default or something that should
not be removed...

OK, I think I got it. I did create a new profile, imported the data
from my exisiting "personal folders" PST and reconnected to the data
storage PSTs I have and it appears clean.

You should NOT import a PST. Just Open it. Importing can lose data and it
will alter time stamps. Personally, I'd go back and simply add the original
PSTs to the profile and close out the new one you apparently created. There
was no need to do that.

Can I delete the original
profile "Microsoft Outlook Internet Setings"

If you're happy with the new one, delete away.

I only imported the main personal folders PST that had my POP3 mail account
in it. All the others I just attached. It seems to be OK now.

OK, if I create a new profile, a new OUTLOOK(1).PST is created. Is there an
easy way to replace this with the OLD OUTLOOK.PST? I have renamed the PST's
int he past but Outlook still seems to complain but I have got it to work....
Is there an easier way?

No need to import that one, either. As I said, importing is subject to lost
or altered data.

OK, if I create a new profile, a new OUTLOOK(1).PST is created.

Don't let Outlook create the new PST. Browse to the old one. It might be
necessary to perform the "Data File" actions first.

Is there an easy way to replace this with the OLD OUTLOOK.PST?

Open the old PST and then click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. At the bottom
left, select the old PST in the "Delivery new e-mail to the following
location" drop-down. Click Finish. Stop and restart Outlook.
